Descartes Improves Shipment Efficiency, Visibility and Reduces Costs for Major Specialty Card Retailer

"Hallmark is a great example of how the automation and standardization of a business process can dramatically save costs and free up resources to deliver more value in other areas of an organization..."

WATERLOO, Ontario -- September 16, 2009 -- Descartes Systems Group, a global on-demand software-as-a-service (SaaS) logistics solutions provider, announced that Hallmark Cards, Inc. has selected Descartes’ Transportation Management and Visibility solution to manage its global, inbound logistics.

Descartes’ Transportation Management solution enables Hallmark to manage its relationships with its transportation carriers, from shipment planning through execution. Descartes’ Visibility solution lets Hallmark monitor the current status of its shipments in real-time. With Descartes, Hallmark can gain end-to-end shipment visibility and more easily manage its inbound shipments regardless of shipment origin, transport carrier or transportation mode. With a web-browser interface, Descartes’ solutions allow Hallmark to have centralized internal visibility across its plants, suppliers and distribution centers across the U.S.

Descartes’ Transportation Manager and Visibility solutions leverage the power of the Descartes Global Logistics Network (GLN) to provide connectivity to a global, multi-modal community of logistics service providers. Over 6,000 connected companies use the Descartes GLN to better manage logistics processes. Hallmark’s connection to the GLN allows them to use the data available via the GLN to find the best rates available with its carriers.

"Hallmark is a great example of how the automation and standardization of a business process can dramatically save costs and free up resources to deliver more value in other areas of an organization," said Scott Sangster, Vice President, GLN at Descartes. "These benefits, combined with our global community of logistics service providers, give our customers a differentiated service."
